Specialized Subjects
Scientific English I , II
The
goal of the International Science and Math course is two-fold. The first
goal is to develop English skills to enable students understand scientific
and mathematical terminology. The second goal is to develop students'
practical oral communication skills.
The skills students attain in this course are applied in the second year, when
students take a trip to the United States. There, students use their auditory
and oral communication skills to learn about the NASA space program.
Natural Science Research I,II
Students
learn about phenomena found on earth and in space through experiments
in school in addition to supplementary field studies.
Through their participation in an overseas trip, they observe and study
the lives and habits of living things as well as geology in a scale and
scope different from that of Japan.
Research
Students
themselves choose their own focus and study it with teachers in a small
group. At times, lecturers from universities or corporations will help
their research.
Students have opportunities to present the results of their study in school
or through competitions.
A Bridge to the Future
Purpose of the International Science and
Math Course
The admissions process into top Universities has become both rigorous
and complicated.
As a result,Misuzugaoka High School has developed a new curriculum and
supplementary course work designed to better prepare students to realize
their dreams. Students who complete the newly established International
Science and Math Course will have the prerequisite skills necessary to
enter the best national, public, and private universities of sciences.
Scope of Science and Math
Science,Technology,Science Technology,Information,Agriculture,Medicine,Dentistry,Nursing,
Home Economics,and Educational Science.
Futures of the International Science and
Math Course:
University Preparatory Material
The International Course curriculum is designed to provide the knowledge
required for the college entrance exam used by the College Entrance Exam
Center,as well as national, public, and private universities.
Small Classes
Class sizes range from 10 to 20 students, allowing greater interaction
between teachers and students.
Projects,Essays,and Debates
Curriculum focuses on developing critical thinking skills through individual
and group projects, essays, and debates. These skills are essential as students
develop their own theories and understanding about science and math. In
addition, these skills are important characteristics sought by Universities
and Colleges in their admission processes.
7 Lessons a Day,Twice
Due to the five-day school week, which will be implemented in 2002,students
will participate in seven lessons a day,two times a week. This is necessary
to keep students competitive at the highest academic levels.
Supplementary Course work & Intensive Study
Skills Camp
Misuzugaoka High School has great prior success with similar supplementary
course work activities as well as Intensive Study Skill camps, and will
continue in the same tradition.
